The Swedish Food Agency
Interest in food and drinking water issues is currently high and affects us all. At the Swedish Food Agency, we contribute to ensuring that food and drinking water are safe for consumers in Sweden, that no one is misled about what food contains, and to sustainable food consumption. The Swedish Food Agency is also involved in building Sweden's civil defense and has a key role in ensuring a robust food and drinking water supply.
Control of Food Companies
In the MittNord team, food companies producing various animal products are inspected. The assignment also includes the inspection of wine and spirits facilities and food served on planes and trains. The geographical area of the team includes Småland, Öland, Gotland, Östergötland, Sörmland, Västmanland, Uppland, and the entire area north of that. The team consists of 8 inspectors and a team leader stationed in different locations within the area. We are now looking for a ninth inspector to join our team!
Your Responsibilities
In this role, you will ensure that food entrepreneurs comply with food legislation, and you will plan, conduct, and follow up on inspections and audits. You will have daily contact with entrepreneurs and inspect both larger and smaller operations such as charcuterie facilities, egg packing plants, dairies, wine and spirits facilities, and fish processing plants. Administrative tasks related to various types of food establishments are also part of the role.
Your work is independent, and you will often be alone on inspections, and you will also conduct remote inspections. Your team is always close at hand. Within the team, we have a lot of digital communication. In this role, you will be able to develop your skills in inspection methodology and deepen your knowledge of legislation and production processes in various industries. You will see operations that you have never seen before and visit areas in the country where you have never been, and you will have the opportunity to grow in your inspector role.
You will belong to the Unit for Food Control in Northern Sweden, with a placement in Östersund or Sundsvall. Travel related to inspection assignments and meetings is included as part of the job. You will almost always drive a car, so you must enjoy being on the move. You will stay in hotels several times each month. The main work area is Gävleborg, Dalarna, Jämtland, and Västernorrland counties. When there are peaks in work in other parts of the country, longer trips may be required. Physical meetings for the entire team and the Unit are usually held in Uppsala, which also involves travel and overnight stays.
Your Qualifications
We are looking for someone with a scientific university degree, such as environmental and health protection, agronomy, veterinary medicine, or another equivalent education.
You should be well-versed in what the food control assignment entails and have relevant years of work experience in food control, such as municipal food control. You should be knowledgeable about food legislation and able to read and interpret laws and regulations. You should also be familiar with the Administrative Procedure Act and understand the requirements for case handling in an authority. You must have excellent Swedish language skills and good English skills, both spoken and written. You should have good administrative abilities, and a B driver's license is required.
Experience working in the food industry is an advantage. Training in some form of conversation technique is also advantageous. We work with MI, motivational interviewing, as a method to achieve our goals.
As a person, you need to be self-sufficient and able to make well-founded decisions and initiatives. You should be confident in yourself and the decisions you make. At the same time, the position requires good cooperation skills; it is together with your team that you succeed and develop. Consultation with entrepreneurs and other stakeholders is also a central part of the work, which requires you to be clear and receptive in your communication.
